April Book Haul!

If you could only see my to-read pile next to my bed currently, you would probably think, “Why is she adding more books to this large pile that will now only grow and grow and take over her room?”  First of all, that is quite the opinion you have already. Secondly, I just discovered bargain books on Amazon!!  As I was watching a favorite booktuber, she mentioned searching through Amazon bargain books and finding amazing deals!  I usually try to keep my Amazon cart at about $30 for 3 books, averaging $10 a book, which I think is reasonable.  As much as I love to go to the bookstore and wander the aisles, picking up books that catch my eye, it is more practical for me to spend less and have it shipped right to me (FREE SUPER SAVER SHIPPING ANYONE?!?).  However, with this new discovery of bargain books, I was able to fit 6 books into my Amazon cart for $30.  WOOHOO!  I believe all of these books were under $10, with two of them being from the bargain book list (indicated below).  The rest of these books have been on my Amazon wish list for a while now, and I’m so excited to really get going on my to-read pile (which just about doubled) this summer!!

The Red Queen by Philippa Gregory
I absolutely cannot wait to get into this book.  I read The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory recently, and I absolutely loved it!  I have seen (and loved) the movie from 2008 as well, which I saw long before reading the book.  However, I thought it was a very accurate portrayal.  I loved the book just as much (if not more) specifically because of the writing style.  Don’t ask me why, but I am obsessed with this time period and English monarchies in history, and specifically the Tudor Dynasty.  This book, a companion novel to The White Queen, details the Lancaster house during the War of the Roses (I also own The White Queen which details the York house during the War of the Roses).  These are both novels in Gregory’s The Cousin’s War series; I don’t believe there is a specific order, however, out of the 4 books in the series, I believe The White Queen was published and followed by The Red Queen.  I am so excited to read both of these novels!

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
This may be the first classic book that I read that was not specifically assigned for school.  I have read several classics throughout high school, but it is completely different to pick up one that you are not forced to read, take notes on, complete a paper, and finish up with a presentation.  Again, I have seen the movie and very much enjoyed it!  I have heard nothing but amazing reviews about this book as well!

Forget You by Jennifer Echols – Bargain Book
This is one of those books that (after my recent discovery of bargain books) I stumbled across and thought it sounded interesting.  I also like to get a mix of books, and I think this haul really shows that.  Similar to when I’m packing my outfits for vacation, I never know what I am going to be in the mood for when the time comes to pick out my next read.  I like to have a variety of romance, humor, and action books on hand.  In this haul, I picked out a mix of a couple books that have been on my to-buy list (which continues to grow and grow…), a couple classics, and a couple books that I don’t know too much about and simply came across when shopping.  This is that book.  I don’t know much about it other than a girl gets into a car accident and can’t remember anything that happened previously, and these two boys are acting strange afterwards so she is trying to decipher what went on before the crash.

Divergent by Veronica Roth
This book.  I have heard SO much about this book!  I literally have heard so many wonderful reviews about this book that I can’t wait to read it.  Possibly my next read (although The White Queen is calling my name too…), but I haven’t heard a bad review yet!  I enjoy the dystopian-type books so I think I’ll enjoy this as well.  I only really know that it is about a society that is divided into factions that represent a certain virtue.  Yeah, that’s about it.  There is a sequel, Insurgent, which again I have heard nothing but amazing reviews, which is exciting to know that after I read this book there will be another amazing book to follow!

Don’t Breathe a Word by Holly Cupala – Bargain Book
Again, this is one that I simply stumbled across in the bargain book section, and for about $4, I thought I would give it a try.  This book describes a girl who feels as though she is suffocating and tries to escape her parents and her current world by running away and befriending a homeless boy, who teaches her about life.  I think it sounds like it will be an interesting read, and again, for $4, why not?

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
The second classic book in this haul, and another one that I don’t know much about.  I know that there is a love story, it’s a classic, and someone once told me that they have a tradition to read this book once a year because they loved it so much.  Reason enough for me to check it out? I think yes.

Please let me know in the comments below if you have read any of these books and which ones you would recommend!  Do you do the same thing when buying your next batch of books?  Try to get a variety of different genres because you don’t know what you’ll be in the mood for?  Do you have this same difficulty when packing outfits for your vacations? :/
